Florist
This is a casual part time position in the Flower Shop. Additional hours available on the sales floor to assist customers and help as needed. The experience we are primarily looking for is prepping and processing fresh stems and managing fresh inventory. The ability to follow direction and a willingness to learn are crucial. This position requires weekend shifts and some afternoon shifts throughout the week.
Tasks include but not limited to:
Receiving flowers and processing stems as instructed
Cleaning buckets, vases, tools, rentals and the workshop space
Creating arrangements for customers in the style they request
Assisting with floral workshops
Assist with deliveries, event set up and strike for events
Packaging and loading/unloading delivery vehicles with event rentals and florals
Helping across other departments as needed
Ability to lift 40lbs, stand for long periods and in general good physically condition as this is a physical job. Like everyone part of House of Dahlie, an upbeat attitude and willingness to learn is the most important trait.
Interior Designer
Is making spaces functional and beautiful everything that you love to do? This flexible position is for an experienced Interior Designer or Interior Architect who is motivated to elevate the homes and workspaces of Port Alberni, Sproat Lake, Tofino and Ucluelet inspiring and beautiful for people to live their best lives.
This designer understands the importance of truly listening to the client’s needs and vision while adhering to the budget and timeline, has the confidence to educate clients when their desires do not align with expectations and offer alternatives.
This designer must work well with trades, vendors and other House of Dahlie staff, take creative direction from the Founder with an open mind, and possess excellent communication skills.
Skills and qualifications required:
Diploma or degree from a recognized institution and 2+ years working in a related field, or 5+ years of experience in the field working for another firm or on your own with a portfolio
Proficient and experienced in Autocadd, Sketchup, Layout, Adobe products, Google business suite, among others
A good understanding of how to utilize the clients budget in their best interest to meet their goals
Understanding of basic bookkeeping, keep track of project expenses and billable hours
Experience with designing Air B&B’s, functional spaces for families and aging in place, and working with companies to elevate workspaces and offices
There are two routes to work with House of Dahlie as an Interior Designer:
on contract - this is suited to someone already established in the area and looking for more clients. The benefit to you is that we will take care of the procurement, billing, closing the sale and marketing for you. Flexible hours, work in the shop or on your own, and you track your own billable hours per project. You will be responsible for your own software, computer, vehicle, etc, as well as your own taxes and other small business admin. Pay will be based on a percentage of project scope or hourly rate.
in house employee - this is suited to someone who needs stable hours for a predictable paycheck and who doesn’t want to deal with the admin part and financial ups and downs of having their own business. This will be combined with a Showroom Advisor position to offer in-house furnishing advise to customers while also being able to turn those conversations into clients for a larger scope of work. The ratio of design work-showroom floor work will vary each month. We provide the software, office space and vehicle for site visits. Pay will be hourly or salary as an employee.
Showroom advisor
This flexible full or part time position is for anyone who loves all things home, gifting and celebrating. Ideally this person loves people, has a background in customer service in a retail setting and has strong communication skills. This position is primarily on the Furniture showroom floor helping customers choose the best pieces for their homes or gifts. Many of our furniture lines are highly customizable, therefore it is crucial you have patience to help the customer’s journey be a positive one as they choose to invest in pieces their home will cherish for decades.
The education you will receive in house will be ongoing and is crucial to helping a customer make the right choices. We have access to hundreds of lines and tens of thousands of products, so effort must be taken to find the perfect item. You must be open minded, willing to learn and strive to always do the best by the customer.
Tasks include but not limited to:
Greeting customers, know when to let them browse and when to help
Processing online orders as they occur
Cashier duties, packaging customer purchases with care
Packaging curated gift boxes, gift wrapping services
General cleaning and maintenance of space
Assist with deliveries if needed
The floor is always changing so moving, lifting and arranging is ongoing
Helping across other departments as needed
Delivery driver extraordinaire
This might be the most important role in all of House of Dahlie - this person is the last point of contact between a customer and House of Dahlie so they need to be wonderful. This person makes it easy for a customer to get a new piece of furniture into their home, hands over a bouquet of flowers with tact, or delivers someone’s dream wedding.
This person needs to have the most positive, can-do attitude and are always up for helping both customers and coworkers in any way. You need a balance between being easy to work with as you will almost always work alongside another person and also able to either take or give direction.
You will be in people’s homes so the utmost care and respect must always be taken, while going the extra mile for “white glove delivery”. Safety for your own body is top priority. It is expected you participate in product knowledge for what we sell so you are prepared to explain items to the customer upon delivery.
Tasks include but not limited to:
Customer deliveries as scheduled working alongside a coworker (Drivers license a must)
Helping customers load their own vehicles
Receiving orders by offloading delivery trucks, placing items where needed and unboxing them
Packaging and loading deliveries
Loading and transporting event rentals to and from the venue
Flower delivery in a professional manner
Assistance on the showroom floor moving furniture for new displays
General cleaning and maintenance in the building
Helping across other departments as needed
Ability to lift heavy loads, climb stairs, have a good sense of maneuvering large pieces of furniture and in general good physical condition. Like everyone part of House of Dahlie, an upbeat attitude and willingness to learn is the most important trait.
